Poppets - 1+1=2 •
Listening to 1+1=2 made me do a double-take, or rather a quick internet search: are Poppets yet another incarnation of John Dwyer’s omnipresence in contemporary rock jams?
Nope! But this Swedish duo sure do sound like they’ve danced with Thee Oh Sees’ frontman and took some of his cool as a souvenir.
Dropping the comparisons: this band rips with its sludgy power pop. Their single, out now on Windian Records, is a quick one that brings the fun and fills your musical quota for the day. “Poolside Fun At Michael’s” makes you wonder who Michael is and why you weren’t invited: a song for a rager, no doubt. And the title track “1+1=2” is just as rage-worthy. Imagine these songs in a live setting: someone is definitely loosing an eye. A warning: this single packs a punch and you might end up listening to this release over and over.. I just did.
